BELLEVILLE - The Darlington girls basketball team started the 2009 playoffs the wrong way. The fifth-seeded Redbirds' postseason ended in one game, a 55-39 loss to No. 4 Belleville in Monday's Monroe Division 3 Regional opener.
The Wildcats led 13-8 after the first quarter. The margin was the same at halftime, with Darlington (12-9) trailing 29-24.
In the third quarter, Belleville went on a decisive 11-2 run to open up the game.
Despite hitting four 3-pointers in the game, Darlington missed too many shots to forge a comeback.
Ashley Martin scored 11 points and Katie Martin added 10 for the Redbirds.

ORFORDVILLE - The Knights failed to get its offense up and running early, falling to the second-seeded Vikings in the opening round of the Division 3 WIAA playoffs.
Parkview (18-3), opened the game on a 17-6 run. By halftime, New Glarus trailed 30-22.
In the third quarter, the Vikings erupted for 22 points and finished the second half outscoring the Knights 37-18.
Tanya Gruter scored a game-high 18 points for New Glarus (4-17).
Michelle Preston hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points. Alycia Atwell notched eight points and Alissa Siegenthaler scored three.
