GIRLS BASKETBALL: Brodhead, Darlington prevail

BRODHEAD - Brodhead's girls basketball team got 12 points and three 3-pointers from Megan Heller on Thursday as it beat new Rock Valley South rival McFarland, 46-40.

Brodhead jumped to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter, but led only 24-21 by halftime.

In the third quarter, Brodhead got back to its scoring ways, putting 13 points on the board.

Kristen Ruchti and Alyssa Harding each scored eight points for Brodhead (3-2, 3-1 conference).

DARLINGTON 58, BOSCOBEL 40

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds got out much quicker against Boscobel than it did in last week's loss to Riverdale.

Darlington went up 12-0 out of the gate and led 34-17 at halftime.

"We didn't shoot that well last week against Riverdale. But it was nice to get off to such a good start tonight," Redbird head coach Kurt Cohen said.

Ashley Martin scored 14 points for Darlington and teammate Elizabeth Mathias scored 11.

Kari Blosch had 9 points, Katie Martin 8, Kelsey Fink 6, Cassie Fink 3 and Mariah Gibson each had 3 and both LeeAnn Kurschner and Miranda Wiegel added two points in the win.

The Redbirds (4-1, 1-1 SWAL) host Platteville next week.
