GIRLS BASKETBALL: Black Hawk suffers first loss

POTOSI - The Black Hawk girls basketball team had its bid for an unbeaten season halted Monday with a 55-45 loss to Potosi.

Black Hawk (12-1, 6-0 Six Rivers East), ranked second in the Associated Press Division 4 state poll, was just six days removed from a thrilling 41-39 home win over the Chieftains in a Six Rivers Conference Challenge game.

But Potosi, ranked seventh in the AP poll, got its revenge by taking advantage of some home cooking.

The Chieftans led the Warriors 24-18 at halftime and outscored Black Hawk 14-6 in the third quarter.

Black Hawk junior Kim Wellnitz led the Warriors with 16 points. Black Hawk seniors Paige Butler and Gabi Lehner each added nine points.

PECATONICA 45, ARGYLE 22

BLANCHARDVILLE - Brittany Kenty and Kimee Chandler combined for 30 points in the win over Argyle.

Pecatonica (8-6, 3-4) used a 15-5 second-quarter spurt to open a 12-point lead en route to the victory.

Argyle senior Brooke Nipple led the Orioles with six points.

Kent and Chandler each scored a game-high 15 points. With the loss, Argyle drops to 1-12 and 0-7.

Pecatonica will play at Black Hawk on Thursday.

CAMBRIDGE 64, NEW GLARUS 43

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights fell hard to conference leader Cambridge.

New Glarus (2-10, 1-4 Capitol South) trailed 11-8 after the first quarter and 30-17 at halftime.

Cambridge (11-1, 5-1), ranked 11th in the state AP poll, jumped all over the Knights in the third quarter and led 55-31 headed into the fourth.

Tanya Gruter led New Glarus with 12 points in the game.

Lauren Narveson and Kaitlin Schluter each scored six points and Rachel Miller scored five.
