Gems take top spots

MILWAUKEE - The Green County Family YMCA Gems Gymnastics Team competed in the Milwaukee Metro YMCA gymnastics meet Saturday and Sunday. The meet was almost a repeat of recent competitions with Levels 1, 2 and 3 all earning first-place team trophies and the Xcel Platinum team earning second place.

The Gems hope to carry this forward to the 2015 YMCA State Gymnastics Meet March 14-15 in Fond du Lac.

All seven members of the Level 1 team earned a spot in the all-around competition in Milwaukee. Kaylyn Albert took home a first-place all-around trophy with three firsts and a fourth on the four events.

Raevynn Jackson and Desirae Signer were second-place finishers. Jackson took second on bars, beam and floor and fourth on vault and Signer was second on beam, fourth on vault and fifth on bars and floor.

Katelynn Kleeman and Melanie Westgard earned third-place all-around in their age groups. Kleeman was second on bars and third on beam and Westgard first on floor, third on bars, fifth on vault and sixth on beam.

Makayla Eddy had a first on bars and seventh on beam and vault for fourth-place all-around and Annabelle Wortman was sixth in the all-around competition with a second-place vault and sixth-place bars finish for Level 1.

In Level 2, Kennadee Johnson, Hailey Thompson and Vaughn Barker all earned first-place all-around trophies in their respective age groups. Johnson was first on bars and vault and second on beam. Thompson took first on vault and second on bars, beam and floor. Barker swept all events for her age group with first-place finishes in all four events.

Also in Level 2, Katrina Sathoff was second on vault, third on bars and floor and fourth on beam for fourth all-around. Morgan Kleeman was first on beam and third on all other events for a third-place all-around finish. Jessy Ruckman earned fifth on bars and sixth on vault. Tess Nafzger took home the second-place all-around trophy in her age group with seconds on bars, beam and floor and third on vault.

Six of the Level 3 Gems earned first- or second-place all-around trophies in Milwaukee. Karis Paulson and Kaylea Paulson earned top honors in their age group and Kaegann Paulson, Ripplee Dunlavey, Jill Marty and Maddison Markham all took home second-place all-around trophies for Level 3.

All Level 3 gymnasts brought home medals. Kaegann Paulson was first on floor, second on beam and third on vault and Sophia McGuire was first on the vault and third on floor. Raegun Buhlmann was sixth on floor and tenth on bars. Dunlavey earned a second on beam, third on floor and sixth on bars. Karis Paulson was first on bars, first on beam, second on floor and fifth on vault. Sierra McGuire was fourth on beam, fifth on floor and seventh on bars. Kaylea Paulson earned firsts on bars and vault, second on floor and third on beam. Maddie Deegan was first on beam and sixth on floor and vault and Jill Marty was first on floor and vault, fourth on bars and sixth on beam. Rounding out Level 3, Markham earned second on bars and fourth on floor and vault while Lizzie Snider finished second on floor and vault.

Bri Seagreaves and Heather Burkhalter competed at Level 4 with Seagreaves earning second on floor and fourth on beam and Burkhalter taking fourth on vault.

Faith Koester was first on floor and fourth on beam and vault at the Xcel Platinum Level. Competing at Level 8, Josie Eberle was second on beam and third on vault for a second-place all-around trophy.
