Gems golden at state

MONROE - The Green County YMCA Gems gymnastics team had an amazing run at the state meet last weekend at the Heart of the Valley YMCA in Appleton.

All 21 members on the Gems' gymnastics team qualified, and nine placed in the top three on either the uneven bars, vault, balance beam, floor or in the all-around competition.

Level 7 gymnast Maria Eberle took first place in the all-around competition, second in the vault with a score of 8.775, and third on the beam (9.1).

Lexus Trickel had an impressive meet as a level 3 gymnast, winning state championships on the balance beam (9.15) and on the floor (9.4). Trickel was third place in the vault (9.4) and second in the all-around competition (36.35).

The Gems had three other gymnasts at level 3 finish in the top three, including Brooke Isely, third place on the floor (9.25), Baylie Engels, third place on the floor (9.1) and Alicia Kuester, third place in the vault (9.4).

In the level 6 state meet, Chandra McGuire was the state champion on the balance beam (8.775) and Josie Eberle finished second on the vault (8.4).

Kathryn Anderson in the level 4 competition finished in second place on the floor (9.125).

Treona Voegeli, who is a level 5 gymnast, took second place on the floor (8.85).
