Gems bring home 96 medals as team

MONROE - The Green County Family YMCA Gems Gymnastics Team had a successful weekend at the Kettle Moraine YMCA competition Feb. 28 and March 1. Levels 1, 2 and 3 all brought home first-place team trophies and the Xcel Platinum team earned second place.

Thirty-four gymnasts competed at the meet for the Gems, bringing home a total of 96 individual event medals and 27 all-around medals. The Gems season will conclude with a meet in Milwaukee this weekend and the state meet in Fond du Lac March 14 and 15.

Josie Eberle competes as a Level 8 gymnast for the Gems. She received four medals at the meet, with a second-place finish on the beam, fifth on both the bars and vault, and fourth place all-around.

Two Gems compete in the Xcel Platinum optional level. Faith Koester was first on floor, third on both beam and vault and third all-around, and Lizzie Brennan took fifth on beam, floor and vault.

Competing at Level 4, Heather Burkhalter was seventh all-around with a third on floor, fifth on bars and ninth on vault.

Bri Seagreaves took home ninth place for her beam routine.

All eleven Level 3 gymnasts competed at Kettle Moraine and each medaled in at least one event. They took first place as a team, competing against 10 other teams. Kaegann Paulson and Sophie McGuire placed second and third all-around, respectively, in the 8-and-under age group. Paulson was first on floor and second on beam and McGuire was first on the bars and fourth on vault.

Ripplee Dunlavey was first on bars and beam and sixth on floor for a first-place all-around finish.

Karis Paulson earned third-place all-around with a third on bars, fourth on floor and tenth on beam.

Sierra McGuire took third on beam, sixth on bars and ninth on floor for eighth-place all-around and Raegun Buhlmann had an eighth-place finish for her beam routine.

In the Level 3 11-year-old group, Kaylea Paulson, Jill Marty and Maddie Deegan finished first, second and third, respectively, in the all-around competition. Paulson took first on bars, second on vault and beam and third on floor. Marty was first on floor, fourth on vault and sixth on both the bars and beam. Deegan earned first on beam, second on bars and seventh on floor.

In the 12-and-over group, Maddison Markham was fifth overall with a sixth on floor and eighth on bars and Lizzie Snider earned sixth on vault and seventh for her floor routine.

The Level 2 Gems beat out seven other teams for their first-place finish. Kennadee Johnson was first all-around in her age group with three firsts on bars, floor and vault and second on beam. Kate Kundert was first all-around in the 8-year-old group with a first on beam and third on bars, floor and vault.

For the 9-year-olds, Morgan Kleeman was first on beam, third on floor and vault and fifth on bars, earning first all-around.

Katrina Sathoff was third on bars, beam and vault for fourth all-around and Hailey Thompson was fifth all-around with a first on bars and two sixth-place finishes on beam and floor.

Jessy Ruckman had a solid performance with a second on the floor and vault, third on bars and fourth on beam for second all-around.

In the Level 2 11-and-over group, all four gymnasts earned an all-around medal. Morgan Schneeberger was first all-around with firsts on the beam and vault and seconds on the bars and floor. Tess Nafzger had seconds on the bars, beam and vault and fourth on floor for second all-around. Vaughn Barker was fourth all-around with a first on bars, fourth on beam and fifth on floor and Kyla Ziolkowski took home third-place medals on beam and floor and sixths on bars and vault for a fifth-place all-around.

Level 1 continued its winning streak with a first-place team finish. Katelyn Kleeman was fifth all-around with three fourth-place finishes on the beam, bars and floor.

Raevynn Jackson had firsts on floor and vault and second on beam for a third-place finish.

Makayla Eddy earned third place all-around in her age group with a second on bars, third on floor, fourth on vault and fifth on beam.

Melanie Westgard earned a second-place medal on the vault.

Annabelle Wortman and Kaylyn Albert earned first- and second-place all-around, respectively, in the Level 1 8-and-up age group. Wortman was first on beam, third on vault and fifth on bars and Albert earned first on floor and vault and second on the beam.
