Gems bring home 92 medals from state meet

GREEN BAY - The Green County Family YMCA Gems Gymnastic Team finished its 2013-14 season with a performance at the Wisconsin YMCA State Meet in Green Bay March 15-16. Thirty-seven gymnasts from the Gems Team competed at the state meet, bringing home a total 92 medals, including 20 all-around medals.

Kate Kundert, Hailey Thompson, Reagun Buhlman, Leah Zierl and Heather Burkhalter are all state champions, placing first in the all-around competition for their age group and level. Nearly 1,000 gymnasts competed in the state meet from YMCA's across the state.

The Level 1 Gems Team remained unbeaten for the season with a first-place team finish at the state competition. Level 1 gymnasts that medaled were: Katelyn Kleeman fifth on floor routine, Kate Kundert first on bars, beam, floor, all-around and second on vault, Maddie Davis third on beam, Danica Altmann fourth on beam and fifth all-around, Katrina Sathoff fourth on beam, first on floor and fourth all-around, Hailey Thompson first on bars, floor and all-around and second on beam and vault, Morgan Kleeman first on beam, third on bars and vault, fourth on floor and second all-around, Reagun Buhlman first on bars, beam and floor, second on vault and first all-around, Morgan Schneeberger second on beam, floor and vault, Leah Zierl first on bars, beam, floor and all-around, Tess Nafzger first on vault, second on beam and all-around and Gwen Jamison second on bars and all-around.

All eight Level 2 gymnasts medaled in at least one event. Kaegann Paulson was sixth on bars, beam and all-around. Sophia McGuire was fourth on bars and sixth on floor. Jessy Ruckman placed sixth on beam. Lily Bobak was twelfth on beam and fourth on vault with an eleventh-place all-around finish. Breanna Giasson earned twelfth on beam, Emily Hazzard was fourth on beam, fifth on bars, ninth on vault and third-place all-around. Kyla Ziolkowski was second on the beam and Lizzie Snider was first on beam, second on floor and vault and fifth-place all-around. The Level 2 team placed sixth out of 14 teams.

The Level 3 team placed fourth out of 17 teams. Ripplee Dunlavey was second on beam, third on floor, sixth on bars and twelfth on vault with a fifth-place all-around finish. Karis Paulson earned a second-place medal for the beam. Kaylea Paulson was second on bars, and fourth on beam, floor and all-around and Maddie Deegan was first on beam and 10th on floor. Jill Marty placed seventh on the floor routine and eighth on bars and Kira Phillips was third on beam and eighth all-around. Maddison Markham earned a ninth-place medal on the beam. Bri Seagreaves was first on bars, and third on beam, floor and all-around. Heather Burkhalter was first all-around in her age group with a first-place finish on the floor and third on the bars and vault.

Faith Koester placed second on beam, seventh on floor and eighth all-around at Level 4. Baylie Engels received a fifth-place medal for her floor routine at Level 4.

For Level 7, Tre Voegeli competed in her last Gems meet and placed second in the floor routine. Josie Eberle placed first on vault, second on beam, fifth on bars and fourth all-around at Level 7. Other competitors at state were Vaughn Barker, Sierra McGuire, Maggie Setterstrom and Lizzy Brennan.
