MONROE - Twenty-six swimmers for the Green County Golden Gators will make the trek to the Milwaukee area for the YMCA state swim meet this weekend.

The Gators have four swimmers who have earned No. 1 seeds in nine individual events and two relays that have received top seeds heading into the state meet at the Schroeder Aquatic Center. There were 33 swimmers who qualified for YMCA state and USA state, but 26 are able to go to Brown Deer for YMCA state this weekend.

The top three swimmers in each individual event win trophies and the top eight receive medals. Ribbons are given to the top 16 in each event.

"We are one of the smaller YMCAs at the state meet," Green County Gators coach Emily Pisula said. "We hold our own for a small team. It's always my personal goal to score more points than we did the previous year."

Mekenzie Hammer is the No. 1 seed in the girls 11- to 12-year-old 100-meter individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 2.65 seconds. She also is the top seed in the 50 backstroke (26.92) and in the 100 backstroke (59.52).
