Gators celebrate state success

MONROE - The Green County Golden Gators ended their fall/winter season with an eighth overall showing at the YMCA state meet held in Milwaukee.

Thirty-six Gator swimmers qualified and competed. The Gator team was the top small team at the meet. The women ended up fourth overall, and the 8-and-under swimmers brought home the championship, winning first place for overall points in the state.

The Gators had 31 top-three finishes total at the meet, with five of those being state first-place championship swims.

State champions were Madelyn Hammer in the girls open 200 freestyle, Mekenzie Hammer in the girls 13-14 100 backstroke, Harper Paradis in the girls 8-and-under 25 breaststroke and the relay teams of Hadleigh Shunk, Kate Parman, Holly Maynard and Harper Paradis in the 8-and-under 100 free relay and Mekenzie Hammer, Megan Klinger, Faith Sill and Morgan Erstad in the 13-14 200 medley relay, which also was a YMCA national qualifying time.

Other YMCA individual national qualifiers include Madelyn Hammer, Mekenzie Hammer and Faith Sill.

The Gator team ended the season breaking 39 team records.
