MONROE - Records are made to be broken. Coming off a state run in girls hockey, Monroe freshman Cammi Ganshert has big goals on the track but didn't expect to be a record-breaker so soon.

Ganshert won the 100-meter dash at the Glendenning Invitational Monday in a meet record time of 12.6 seconds. Ganshert broke the record set by Black Hawk's Jen Wellnitz (13.04) in 2012. Ganshert also won the 200-meter dash (27.36).

"I just want to get better and be as fast as I can," Ganshert said. "I just want to stay competitive and run good times in all my races. I just want to keep improving my times and get better."

Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis was impressed by the performances of Ganshert.

"She's a stud," Davis said of Ganshert. "Cammi is a high-caliber runner."

Monroe junior Jordan Hirsbrunner had a hand in winning four events and was named the meet's most valuable performer by the visiting coaches. Hirsbrunner won the 100 hurdles in 15.8 seconds and the 300 low hurdles in a meet record time of 46.62 seconds. She won the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 4 inches. Hirsbrunner teamed with senior Isabel Bazley, sophomore Mya Waterman and Ganshert to win the 1,600 relay in a meet-record 4:18.51.

"She (Hirsbrunner) will only get higher and higher," Davis said of the high jump. "She had a busy night and to jump 5-4 is a big accomplishment. She won four events, so it was hard not to name her MVP. I didn't vote, but the other coaches voted her MVP."

Davis split the Monroe girls track team into two teams - Monroe Red and Monroe White. Benton-Scales Mound captured the team title over Monroe Red 142-119. Darlington placed third in the 11-team event, followed by Monroe White (84). Albany finished fifth (79), Sugar River sixth (62), Monticello in seventh (35), Pecatonica-Argyle eighth and Black Hawk last (7).

"It definitely gives us a chance to get all of our girls in because some of them have not been in a meet yet," Davis said of the two Monroe teams. "It's a way to compete and have fun."

Davis wanted to see the Cheesemakers run a stacked 1,600 relay.

"I wanted to see what we could run in that race so I pulled all four of them from both teams together," Davis said. "That is an event where they could move on at the end of the year, and they may have a chance at state."

Darlington's 1,600 relay team finished third (4:37.33).

The Monroe White 800 relay team of Bazley, Oudinot, junior Josie Eberle and Waterman won in a meet record time of 1:52.71. It was just ahead of the previous mark set by Monroe's Jaclyn Ditter, Rachel Rogerson, Brenna Bazley and Lauren Werth in 2011. Darlington's 800 B relay took third (1:56.75).

"Isabel has the record over her sister now, and that is pretty cool," Davis said.

Eberle, competing with the Monroe White team, took second in the 100 (12.8) and second in the pole vault (7-6). Senior teammate Abby Oudinot, also with Monroe White, placed third in the 100 (13.5).

One of the premier sprinters in Green and Lafayette counties is Pecatonica-Argyle junior Josie Penniston. Penniston won the 400 (1:03.48) and placed second in the 200 (27.82). She is coming off a season during which she qualified for the Division 3 state meet in both the 100 and 400.

"Those are my two favorite races," Penniston said of the 200 and 400. "I just like the competition. I like to go out at a decent pace in the 400 and when I get to the 200 then I push it as hard as I can."

Monroe sophomore Rachel Meier finished first in the 1,600 (5:44.05).

"It's nice to get back on my feet and do what I wanted to do," Meier said after she ran the 1,600 on Saturday at UW-Whitewater and wasn't satisfied with her time. "I felt like I could have done better. My goal is to run a 5:30. If I would have been pushed more I think I can get to that level. Obviously, I still have some work to do."

Monticello freshman Abby Wicker won the 800 (2:44.65) and took second in the 1,600 (6:08.72). Monroe Red's Kati Symons took second (2:44.80). Monroe junior Stephanie Sanft finished third in the 800 (2:48.83).

Sugar River junior Noelle Marie won the 3,200 in a meet-record 11:29.72. Albany junior Ciara Kaderly finished second (12:37.18), and sophomore teammate Emma Guenther was third (12:45.32).

Sugar River junior Krista Diaz finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.1), and Monroe junior Casey Rielly was third in the 300 hurdles (52.78).

The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of sophomore Meghan Douglas, sophomore Reghan Komprood, senior Carly Langkamp and freshman Ilse Mendez won the race (11:00.73). The Monroe White team's 3,200 relay team of Waterman, freshman Elise Smith, freshman Erja Smith and Bazley took second (11:06.05). Albany took third (11:08.06).

Darlington swept the top two spots in the discus. Junior Taryn Rankin won (99-1), and sophomore Kennedy Rankin took second (92-3). In the shot put, Darlington senior Madeline Jenson placed third (29-13⁄4), and Monroe senior Brooke Rowe was fourth (28-11⁄4).

Monroe junior Alicia Kuester took second in the long jump (16-13⁄4), and Oudinot was third (15-8). Sugar River senior Madalena Macht took second in the triple jump (32-101⁄2).

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of Oudinot, Eberle, freshman Faith Koester and freshman Elli Mueller finished second (55.17)) behind a Benton-Scales-Mound team that set a meet record (53.35). Darlington's 400 relay team took third (57.67).

Albany senior Sydnee Woyak took third in the 1,600 (6:18.70). Darlington senior Molly McDaniel finished third in the pole vault (7-6).
