MONROE - Coach Dale Buvid said he can remember very few times over the years when his Monroe softball team scored eight runs and lost.
"Eight runs I'm pretty happy about," Buvid said. "Give us eight runs every time and we'll take on anybody and expect to win."
The Cheesemakers were on the verge of victory Thursday against Milton, but committed two of their five errors in the top of the seventh inning and the Red Hawks scored five times en route to a 10-8 victory at Twining Park.
Buvid's frustration was evident as he sat on an equipment box along the first base line after the game and recounted Monroe's second loss to Milton in four days.
"It's tough to keep giving (games) away. We've basically given two games away to them," Buvid said of the Red Hawks (10-2, 5-1 Badger South), who posted a 5-0 victory against the Cheesemakers on Monday.
"There's skill on this team, there's talent on this team. We can't keep beating ourselves. We have to make some plays in that last inning and make some better pitches."
Milton rapped three of its nine hits off Monroe pitcher Becca Armstrong in the seventh inning, when the Red Hawks batted around in putting up the five-spot. Armstrong also walked two in the frame.
Milton scored its first run on an error, two more on fielder's choices and Taylor
