MONROE - A Freeport husband-and-wife team, Ed Schradermeier and Uli Dornhagen, won three straight matches to win the 39th city mixed doubles tennis tournament Sunday at Recreation Park.
Schradermeier is a longtime tennis coach at Freeport High School. He and his wife defeated Eric Buol and Ellie Grossen 2-6, 7-5, (10-7) in the championship match.
Schradermeier and Dornhagen defeated Frank Meier and Jill Belardi in the semifinals 3-6, 6-1, 10-5, while Buol and Grossen defeated Kevin Noriega and Eva Priewe in the other semifinal match 6-3, 6-3.
Third-place honors went to Meier and Belardi as they defeated Noriega-Priewe 6-2, 6-3.
On the consolation side, it was the Deforest father-and-daughter team of Ed and Amy Sommers who defeated Jeremy and Chelsea Miller 6-3, 6-3.
The two-day mixed doubles tournament was the last of the three city tennis tournaments.
