FORT ATKINSON - When the Monroe Cheesemakers and the Fort Atkinson Blackhawks square off in anything, it's usually a hard-fought battle. It was more of the same Tuesday as the two teams met in a Badger South volleyball match with the Blackhawks winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.
"It was like two welterweights going at it, blow for blow," said Monroe head coach Dave Gersbach. "Both teams played superbly. It showed good execution of our teamwork."
Senior Jaclyn Ditter paced the Cheesemakers with eight kills and sophomore Becca Armstrong came through with four blocks and two aces. The Cheesemakers also got outstanding efforts from senior Abby Jacobson, who had 17 assists, and junior Gracie Schilt (nine digs).
"We slowed down their middle attackers and forced them to play out of their comfort zone," Gersbach said.
Monroe (0-4 Badger South, 4-9-1 overall) will host Oregon Thursday.
"We're looking for a nice home crowd to boost our confidence," said Gersbach.
