Five YMCA Mat Rats wrestled in area youth tournaments last weekend.
Cole Meighan and Payton Weckerly competed at the Cambridge Classic youth wrestling tournament Saturday. Meighan finished second and Weckerly took fourth.
Two Mat Rats and one former Mat Rat who is now a high school wrestler competed in the Dominate in the Dells Tournament on Saturday. More than 1,000 wrestlers from 286 teams from all over the United States took part in the event. Jack Dubach competed in a 26-wrestler bracket and placed sixth. Patrick Rielly wrestled in a bracket of 13 and also placed sixth. Former Mat Rat, Kyle Walter, a junior at Monroe High School and a WIAA state qualifier this year, placed sixth in a bracket of eight.
The Mat Rats are training for the regional qualifier Saturday. The top two finishers in each bracket will go on to the Youth State Tournament on March 25-26 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
