Five college players wrap up seasons

MONROE - Several area college softball players wrapped up seasons recently including Juda's Amber Ramos, Monroe's Kayla Updike, Monroe's Taylor O'Leksy, Argyle's Alysha Monahan and Monticello's Karlie Klossner.



Amber Ramos

Ramos is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

In Ramos' first year on the mound as a Ranger she compiled a team leading 2.90 ERA. She pitched 50.2 innings with 68 strikeouts. Ramos led the team with the lowest percentage of hits per innings pitched and the highest strikes per innings pitched for the Rangers. Ramos' best performance came in a 7-4 victory against Kentucky Weslyean when she took the mound in relief and struck out 9 in three innings to pick up the save.



Kayla Updike

Updike is a freshman at Edgewood College. Updike played centerfield and third base for the Eagles. She helped Edgewood College qualify for the NACC Conference Tournament for the first time since 2008. Updike finished the season fourth on the team with a .288 batting average overall and .316 in conference, and was first on the team with a .372 on base percentage. She led the team with eight doubles, 12 walks, and was second on the team with 17 RBI. She finished fourth on the team with nine multi-hit games. Updike's best performance came in a 7-4 victory against Alverno College when she went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI.



Taylor O'Leksy

O'Leksy is a freshman at Highland Community College where she batted leadoff and played second base for the Lady Cougars. She finished the regular season second on the team in batting with 36 hits, .321 average overall and .355 average in conference, while scoring 21 runs and chipping in 11 RBI.

O'Leksy was also second on the team with 11 multiple hit games. She led the team with 113 at bats while only striking out a team low nine times. At second base she was second on the team in fielding percentage. O'Leksy's best performance came against Kishwaukee College when she went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI.



Alysha Monahan

Monahan is a freshman at Highland Community College where she was a utility player for the Lady Cougars, playing everything from all three outfield positions, catcher, first base and even a short stint at shortstop. She batted .288 overall and .316 in conference. Monahan collected 28 hits which included two home runs and she finished second on the team with 21 RBI. Monahan's best game came in a win against Madison College when she went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and five RBI.



Karlie Klossner

Klossner is a junior at Edgewood College where she appeared on the mound in a career high 25 games as a starter and reliever for the Eagles in 2015 winning six games. She was second on the team with a 4.41 ERA, 95.1 innings pitched, and 29 strikeouts.

Klossner's best performance on the mound came when she threw the fifth no-hitter in Edgewood College's softball history against the Milwaukee School of Engineering, striking out two en route to a 1-0 victory. Klossner was named Edgewood College Student Athlete of the week three times in 2015.
