The Monroe fifth grade girls traveling basketball team won the championship in the MATC Tri-County basketball tournament.

Playing in the American White Division, Monroe posted a 3-0 record to bring home the title. The tournament started against a much taller Waunakee team and Monroe pulled out an 18-16 win in double overtime. Monroe played a much faster game against Verona and were able to hang on for a 32-28 win.

In the championship game, Monroe played Lodi. Lodi has beat Monroe by one and two points in games earlier in the season. With the score tied at 16 with 5.6 seconds left Monroe called timeout having to go the length of the court. Sydney Updike passed the ball into Megan Benzschawel took the inbound pass and drove up the side and was fouled on a layup with 2 seconds to go. Benzschawel missed her first free throw, but sank the second to give Monroe a 17-16 win. Monroe finished their season 12-3 and were 9-3 in league play.
