NEW GLARUS - Courtney Feller's 3-point shot bounced off the rim three times before going in to help give the New Glarus girls basketball team a thrilling 45-43 overtime win over Monticello on Saturday.

Feller scored a game-high 16 points including six in overtime, but none were bigger than her 3-pointer with about 54 seconds to go.

"I told Courtney you need to shoot the ball when you are open," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "I told her that is why you shoot the ball. Good things happen."

New Glarus junior Sierra Watrud added 12 points and Alexis Hanson chipped in 10 points.

"The girls know each other and are friends," Scheele said. "It's always a tough game against Monticello. Getting that first win and being 1-1 is better than 0-2. It wasn't pretty, but getting that first win under their belt is very good."

Watrud had a chance to win it at the end of the fourth quarter, but her shot in the waning seconds rimmed out. Scheele liked the scoring balance the Knights had.

"It's harder to defend when you have more than one scorer on the floor," she said. "Any one of these kids can score in double figures. It's great to see it's not just one kid doing all the scoring."

Monticello junior Marissa Berg scored a team-high 13 points and Paige Dilley added nine for the Ponies.

New Glarus (1-1) will host Luther Prep on Tuesday. After two close games against Black Hawk and Monticello, Scheele is looking forward to the conference part of the season.

"Our conference will be starting shortly," Scheele said. "We are looking forward to what we learned from these games against Black Hawk and Monticello. It was good to see them jump back and finish out a close game."

Juda 49, Jefferson 31

JUDA - Jessica Rackow and Tabatha Davis combined for 32 points to lead Juda past Rockford Jefferson 49-31 to take third place in the holiday tournament on Saturday.

Rackow scored a game-high 18 points and Davis added 14. The Panthers outscored Jefferson 25-10 in the second half.

"Tabatha Davis and Jessica Rackow really came up big for us," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "I think we played better than we did on Friday. We were crisper and fresher. I feel like we were more prepared. We knew how we wanted to attack their zone."

Juda (2-1) will host Potosi on Friday.

"We are really happy being 2-1 and trying to figure out who we are with a new team," Brown said.
