MONROE - Evansville's Payton Townsend scored two goals to lead the Blue Devils to a 7-0 win over Monroe on Saturday at Honey Creek Park.
Monroe was missing two starters in freshman Alex Barradas who was out of town and Evan Thompson who was ill.
Evansville scored five goals in the first half against the Cheesemakers.
"It was a surprise," Monroe coach Tony Vasquez said. "We had three opportunities at the beginning of the game. I think when we didn't finish them they got disappointed. It just kind of snowballed. It just seemed like they got discouraged and let up a little bit."
With the loss, Monroe drops to 2-7-1, 0-2 Badger South. The Cheesemakers outshot the Blue Devils 19-11.
Evansville's Andy Forster put the Blue Devils on the board, scoring a goal at 4 minutes, 44 seconds. Moments later, Townsend scored his first goal on an assist by Kevin Garcia to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils also got first half goals from Ryan Christens, Garcia and Tyler Hanson to take a 5-0 lead at the half.
Townsend scored his second goal at 58:25 to extend the Blue Devils' lead to 6-0. Evansville's Ryan Landry capped the scoring with a goal at 79:14.
"To put in seven goals on just 11 shots it really just was their day," Vasquez said.
