CINCINNATI - Darlington native and former Wisconsin Badger wide receiver Alex Erickson made the final 53-man roster for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Erickson is vying for a role as a punt returner with the Bengals. Erickson returned six punts during the preseason and averaged 30.8 yards a return with an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown in his first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. Both Adam Jones and Erickson are listed on the Bengals' depth chart as punt returners. As a backup wide receiver, Erickson was the Bengals' second leading receiver in the preseason with seven receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
In his final year with the Badgers last season, Erickson had 77 receptions for 978 yards and three touchdowns, which was one catch away from tying Jared Abbrederis' single-season school record (78).
Erickson and the Bengals open the season at noon Sunday playing at the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
