MONROE - Eric Jubeck was named the new girls track coach for Monroe High School on Wednesday.

Monroe High School Activities Director Jeff Newcomer made the announcement in a news release. Jubeck will take over for Matt Davis, who resigned at the end of the season after three years as girls head track coach.

Jubeck takes over a program that placed third at the WIAA Division 2 state meet this year. Jubeck brings 10 years of coaching experience including most recently five years as a coach at Beloit Memorial High School.

Jubeck, a 2000 Monroe graduate, will be working in the district this fall as a special education teacher at the high school. Jubeck's father, Howie Jubeck, has been a fixture coaching in Monroe coaching for more than 100 seasons at the high-school and middle-school levels in track, basketball, cross country and wrestling.

"I enjoyed my time coaching and teaching in Beloit," Eric said. "(But) it was my time to be home. When the opportunity came to teach and coach just a couple of blocks from home, I jumped to have that opportunity. I love the sport."

Eric's daughter, Makayla Jubeck, is a sophomore, and he will have the chance to coach her.

"My dad was my coach when I was in school and it was always a neat experience, sitting around the dinner table and talking about my events," Eric said. "I have been so fortunate to have him as a mentor. In middle school when you miss some of your kids' events, it's not as big of a deal. This past year I missed a couple of Makayla's meets and it was tough. It (coaching Makayla) was definitely a big part of it. It's an opportunity I know I will cherish. I have coached long enough to know what I have."

Jubeck said seeing the Cheesemakers take third at state was a great accomplishment.

"It will be hard replacing someone like Jordan Hirsbrunner who scored 26 points at the state meet," he said. "That doesn't happen too often. I think we still have some really good athletes and underclassmen who are really talented."

Newcomer was excited to add someone with coaching experience and who is familiar with the Cheesemakers' tradition.

"We are very excited to add Jubeck to the Cheesemaker coaching family," Newcomer said in a news release. "It is special when you can add a high-quality coach and have them be an alum. In talking with Coach Jubeck, it became obvious he has a coaching philosophy that we look for in coaches, and his passion for the sport and his knowledge of the Cheesemaker track and field tradition cannot be matched."
