MONROE - On Saturday, March 15, there were 15 YMCA Monroe Mat Rat wrestlers who competed in the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation Youth State Wrestling qualifier.
Ten wrestlers traveled to the Middleton tournament site, while five went to the Mineral Point site. The top two place winners in their weight class and respective age divisions qualify and move on to compete at the Youth State tournament on March 28-29 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
The YMCA Mat Rat Team did very well, as eight out of the 15 wrestlers made it to state. In the 2005-06 birth years division, Jack Dubach finished first in the 66-pound weight class; Wyatt Brown finished second in the 95-pound weight class. In the 2003-04 birth years division, Luke Dubach finished second in the 81-pound weight class; Max Patterson finished second in the 72-pound weight class. In the 2001-02 birth years division, Patrick Rielly finished first in the 115-pound weight class; Alex Witt finished second in the 110-pound weight class. In the 1999-2000 birth years division, Sam Kind finished first in the 100-pound weight class. Dempzy Foley finished first in the 130-pound weight class.
The seven wrestlers who came up a little short of qualifying were: Roderick Rath, Christian Schuh, Garret Voegeli, fourth place; Brady Schuh fourth place; Lukas, third place and Tim Andersen and Travis Wof.
