MONROE - Madison Edgewood, the No. 1 ranked team in the Wisconsin Swim Coaches Association Division 2 state poll, knocked off Monroe-New Glarus 107-62 Tuesday at the Green County YMCA.
"It was a great crowd with lots of support and enthusiasm for our seniors' last home meet," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "The girls went up against a tough Edgewood team. The girls scored 11 more points than last year and posted 13 PRs."
Monroe junior Skylar Lassen won the 100-meter backstroke with a personal-record time of 1 minute, 12.83 seconds. New Glarus senior Anna Wolf won the 100 butterfly with a PR of 1:13.72.
The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of sophomore Grace Keith, sophomore Maddie Hammer, Wolf and senior Abby Oudinot took second with a PR of 2:11.46. New Glarus freshman Nina Schiro teamed with Oudinot, Lassen and Hammer to finish second in the 200 freestyle relay with a PR of 1:57.93.
"The score didn't show a win, but they walked away with a personal victory of facing a challenge head on and not letting go without a fight," Moser said.
Keith finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:29.47) and second in the 400 freestyle (5:09.96). Hammer finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:03.98) and Lassen took second in the 50 freestyle (29.33).
Monroe-New Glarus will swim in Platteville at the Hillmen Invitational on Saturday.
"It is back to work with lots of fine-tuning and the last leg of the race for endurance," Moser said.
