MADISON - Both Monroe senior Eric Timm and freshman Nick Baumann shot 6-over-par 42 at the Nakoma Country Club in the Cheesemakers' season-opening 171-160 conference loss to Madison Edgewood on Tuesday.
"It was a close match," Monroe golf coach Braden Rindy said. "We feel like we didn't shoot the best."
Monroe junior Matt Miller carded a 43 and sophomore Tanner Thompson finished with a 44.
The Cheesemakers season opener was Monday and they shot a 340 to finish tenth in the 23-team Edgewood Invite Monday at Maple Bluff. Timm shot a 76 and tied for tenth place and Baumann finished with an 83 in his varsity debut.
"They (Timm and Baumann) both shot well and coming off of that they expected to do better," Rindy said of the dual with the Crusaders on Tuesday. "All of them are capable of shooting better."
The Cheesemakers finished ahead of every badger South team at the tournament except for Edgewood and were just six strokes behind Fort Atkinson.
"If we all click at the same time, we will be tough to beat," he said.
