MADISON - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team won just one event and lost a Badger South Conference dual meet to Madison Edgewood 126-44 on Tuesday.

Monroe-New Glarus junior Maddie Hammer won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 16.74 seconds. Monroe senior Skylar Lassen finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:11.20) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:06.82).

"We knew it was going to be a tough meet and it was that," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said in an email. "There were bright spots tonight and we know we have a lot of work ahead of us to be ready for conference and sectionals."

The Cheesemakers are preparing for some tough upcoming dual meets against Milton and McFarland, Moser said.

"The girls need to believe they can compete with even the top teams and swim with confidence; tonight I'm not sure they always believed in themselves," she said. "Their confidence was shaken, but not for long. We will be swimming harder and tougher as we continue into the season."

Monroe sophomore Cammi Ganshert set a personal record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:09.22. Junior Anna Latimer took three seconds off her time in the 50 freestyle (37.58) in the 200 freestyle relay and five seconds off her 100 backstroke time (1:37.23) to set a PR. Monroe freshman Kayleigh Nesbitt set a PR in the 100 butterfly by one second (1:32.91).

Edgewood defeated Monroe-New Glarus in the junior varsity meet 99-29.
