Edgewood stymies Monroe

MADISON - The Monroe girls soccer team's season came to an end with a 7-0 loss to Madison Edgewood in a WIAA Division 3 regional championship game on Saturday.

It's the second straight year Monroe has lost a game in the regional final. Last year, Sugar River defeated the Cheesemakers 1-0 in a regional final.

Monroe finishes the season 8-9-3.



Sugar River 1, McFarland 0

BELLEVILLE - Sugar River sophomore Rylee Hubbard scored a goal in the 78th minute to lead the Raiders to a 1-0 win McFarland in a WIAA Division 3 regional championship game on Saturday.

Hubbard scored the game-winning goal on an assist from junior Sam Trainor. With the win, second-seeded Sugar River (21-1), the Division 3 state runner-up last year, advances to the sectional semifinal where the Raiders will play Mount Horeb in a sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday in Belleville.

Sugar River sophomore goalie Rachael Heittola had seven saves.

Sugar River is looking to reach the state tournament for the second straight year.
