MONROE - The Monroe baseball team was plagued by errors in an 11-0 six-inning loss to Madison Edgewood on Tuesday.

The Crusaders had a 2-0 lead on the Cheesemakers going in to the fourth inning. Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said the team misplayed a bunt situation and a passed ball and a couple of hits led to the Crusaders scoring three runs and taking a 5-0 lead. The Cheesemakers committed five errors in the game.

"We just had a lot of mental mistakes and it just got away from us," Huffman said. "We have to learn not to let one mistake turn into two or three over the course of the game."

Monroe senior Brad Ripp pitched 52⁄3 innings and gave up 11 runs - just four earned runs on 12 hits. He walked two. Senior Cole Murray closed the game getting the final out on the mound.

With the loss, Monroe drops to 3-8, 1-4 Badger South.

"Edgewood is a young team with a lot of sophomores and juniors," Huffman said. "We thought it was a game we could compete in. Brad came out and threw good enough to get us where we needed to be."

The Cheesemakers were limited to five hits.

"I really think we have to come out with more fire and life," Huffman said.

The next opportunity for the Cheesemakers will come Thursday at Milton. The Cheesemakers and Red Hawks will complete a game that was suspended due to darkness in Monroe April 4. The Cheesemakers and Red Hawks are tied at 1 in the bottom of the ninth inning with Monroe freshman Jared Dillon on second base and one out. After the teams finish the suspended game, they will play the regular scheduled game.
