LAKE GENEVA - Monroe senior Maria Eberle's return to the track after battling a sore muscle was just what her coach was hoping.
Eberle finished third in the 100-meter dash at the Lake Geneva Invite on Friday with a time of 13.37 seconds.
"It's really a high-caliber meet," Miller said. "The competition at this meet was at a higher level than what we have seen outdoors so far this season."
With six of Monroe's top long-distance runners at the Penn Relays, the Cheesemakers still fielded the top boys 3,200-meter relay team. The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Jake Hirsbrunner, Steve Christiansen, Cody Oudinot and Luke Peterson took first with a time of 8 minutes, 30.28 seconds.
"Each one of them is competing for a spot on that final relay team," Miller said. "Even with six of our guys halfway across the country at the Penn Relays, they ran a great time on a cold rainy day."
The Monroe girls finished eighth and the boys were ninth. The Cheesemakers left about halfway through the meet.
"We said let's be safe and get home," Miller said. "There was nothing positive we would have got by staying. The only thing that probably would come from it were injuries."
