MONROE - Maria Eberle made her last track meet in Monroe a memorable one.
Eberle won a Badger South Conference title in the 100-meter dash (12.82) and anchored the 400 relay team to a second-place finish.
"It feels awesome because it is my senior year," Eberle said of winning a conference championship in the 100. "I have worked hard for this."
The senior missed a couple of meets with muscle aches, but was healthy Tuesday.
"Once I found out I had a chance to win a conference championship, that was my ultimate goal," she said. "Sometimes you have to learn to run through pain."
Stoughton won the title, outdistancing Edgewood 195-113.5. Monroe was last (65.5).
"We knew we didn't have the big-meet fire power," Monroe coach Curt Miller said. "Regardless of what place we got, I was proud of how hard the girls worked. They performed well in a very tough conference."
Taylor Barrett was third in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and had a season-best long jump by one foot (15-6 3/4), good for fifth place. After Barrett cleared 4-10 and the girls 3,200 relay was over, there was a 50-minute lightning delay.
"I think all the high jumpers were affected," Miller said. "Then you have to go back out there and warm up again. Taylor will only get better."
Eberle teamed with Tre Voegeli, Mackenzie Hesgard and Lauren Werth to finish second in the 400 relay (52.20).
Voegeli took third in the pole vault (8-6) and was fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.71). Werth added a fifth-place finish in the 100 (13.43). The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay took fourth (10:25.22) and Eberle was fourth in the long jump (15-9 1/4).
"She (Voegeli) has come on as one of our top athletes," Miller said. "She ran one of the best hurdle races of her life. As a sophomore, her times are only going to come down and her height in the pole vault is only going to go up."
