BELMONT - The Six Rivers All-Star games gave graduates one more time to shine in front of basketball fans Friday at Belmont High School.

The two all-star gams are a fundraiser for the American Family Children's Hospital in Madison. Black Hawk girls basketball coach Mike Flanagan, who serves as the Six Rivers All-Star game director, said the event raised $800.

"It's fun to raise money through a good-will donation at the door," Flanagan said. "I wish we could do more. For the parents, they don't want to see those kids' careers end."

The games have raised more than $11,000 since they were launched by former Black Hawk boys basketball coach Jerry Mortimer.

The Six Rivers East girls All-Stars defeated the Six Rivers West 67-58. Monticello's Samantha DeVoe scored a team-high 12 points to lead the East. Argyle's Jenna Langmeier added 10 points and Juda's Molly Marass chipped in nine points.

The West was led by Katelyn Schobert who scored a team-high 12 points. Teammate Jannie deHaan and Highland's Brenna Bomkamp each had 12.

In the boys' all-star game, Black Hawk's Heath Butler scored a game-high 23 points and drilled three 3-pointers, but the West beat the East 78-69. Pecatonica's Drew Schliem scored 13 points.

The West hit 13 three-pointers. River Ridge's Kirk Martin scored a team-high 17 points and hit three 3-pointers. Potosi's Brent Curtis scored 13 points and Kyle Kaiser chipped in 11 points and made three 3-pointers. Shullsburg's Brett Matye added 11 points and also hit three 3-pointers.

Flanagan is debating whether the game should switch to a competition to see which team can raise the most money.

"If every player could raise $50, we would probably double what we get at the door as a good-will donation," Flanagan said.
