BARNEVELD - Senior Abby Baumgartner hit a home run and had three RBI to help the Black Hawk softball team roll to a 10-5 win over Barneveld on Tuesday.
Black Hawk scored six runs in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead. Black Hawk senior Brooke Moore went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Baumgartner finished 2-for-4 and senior Tatum Jackson was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Lauren Schultz went 2-for-4, and sophomore Hannah Herbst was 2-for-5.
The Warriors pounded out 14 hits.
"I'm really happy with the way we are hitting the ball and running the bases," Black Hawk coach Jim Baumgartner said. "The girls stepped up at the plate and in the field to help out our pitcher."
Black Hawk senior pitcher Rachel Ritschard pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Ritschard struck out two and walked seven.
"She (Ritschard) pulled a muscle in her throwing shoulder and had an off night on the mound. It's not like her to walk seven in a game," Jim Baumgartner said. "The girls saw she was having trouble and responded with really good defensive plays and solid hitting."
Argyle 12, Pecatonica 2 (5)
ARGYLE - Sophomore Ashley Bruehlman went 4-for-4 with a triple to lead Argyle's 17-hit attack in a five-inning win over Pecatonica.
Argyle (8-13, 5-5 Six Rivers East) led 6-2 going into the fifth inning. The Orioles sealed the win with a six-run fifth.
Argyle's Sloan Flannery went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI, and junior Kayla Butler-Paulson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Junior Brianne Connors went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, and junior Sam Mick was 2-for-4 with a triple.
"I love to see them breakout and come into these games and hit like that with the tournament coming up," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said.
Butler-Paulson pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up two earned runs on six hits. She struck out two and walked one.
Pecatonica senior Clara Moen went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Moen pitched five innings and gave up 12 earned runs on 17 hits. She struck out one and walked three.
The Orioles committed three errors. It's one area Ganshert wants to see the team clean up.
"We are still making too many errors," Ganshert said. "That will hopefully get fixed by the tournament."
Juda-Albany 17, Monticello 7 (5)
ALBANY - Sophomore Brook Kahler, Cassi Huffman and Haley Freitag each played a big role in powering Juda-Albany to a win over Monticello.
Kahler went 3-for-4 and Huffman was 3-for-3 with a double. Freitag went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run for the Panthers, who pounded out 17 hits.
Juda-Albany, ranked second in the WisSports.net Division 4 coaches' poll, improves to 19-5 overall and 14-0 in the Six Rivers East.
"The bats are waking up," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "It's the time of year you want to do it. It's good to see some of the younger girls step up and take advantage of their opportunities."
Juda-Albany's Piper Bailey finished 2-for-4, and senior Jessica Crull went 2-for-3.
Junior Sara Jordan pitched a complete game to pick up the win. She gave up three earned runs on six hits. Jordan struck out four, walked two and helped her own cause at the plate by going 2-for-4.
Monticello freshman Jaycey Rufer went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Ponies. Freshmen Claire Klossner and Lindsay Pence each went 2-for-3.
Monticello junior pitcher Jessie Garrison pitched five innings and gave up 17 runs on 17 hits. She didn't record a strikeout and walked four.
