Eagles fly past Brodhead boys

JEFFERSON - Cold shooting doomed the Brodhead boys basketball team, as the Cardinals lost to Jefferson, 63-31.

"I don't think it was so much anything Jefferson did," said Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer. "They pressed us, but overall we handled the press okay. The bottom line is we shot 20 percent for the game; 11 percent from behind the arc. We also had 14 turnovers."

Josiah DeLorme led Brodhead with 16 points. DeLorme was 9-9 from the free throw line. The Cardinals were 13-18 from the line as a team.

"The bright side is our free throw shooting been pretty decent the last couple games," said Kammerer. "The free throw shooting has been where we've gotten a lot of our points from."

Brodhead dropped to 4-9 with the loss. Kammerer said one area his team needs to improve is their mental toughness.

"It seems like when we get off to a good start, as far as playing a good, competitive first quarter, that's where we stay in the game," he said. "Mental toughness, we gotta get better at. Mentally, if they jump out to an 8 or 10-point lead, we gotta take it possession by possession. When they get the lead it's because we have too many turnovers and give up too many offensive rebounds."
