Eagle River tops Blues

EAGLE RIVER - The Monroe Blues semi-pro hockey team lost a battle to Eagle River 5-2 Friday, Dec. 12.

Monroe's Jason Johnson scored the first goal for the Blues on an assist from Mike Goeser midway through the first period. Eagle River came back to score a goal on a power play tie the game at 1.

About two minutes into the second period, Monroe's Tom Rane scored a goal on assists by Ryan Roeming and Johnson to give the Blues a 2-1 lead. Eagle River rallied for two goals to take a 3-2 lead.

With the Blues trailing by one goal, they looked to play more aggressive on offense and Eagle River scored two third-period goals to clinch the win.

Monroe goalie Christian Blick had 46 saves. The Monroe Blues (1-3) will host the Fox Cities Ice Dogs at 8 p.m. Saturday at SLICE.
