MONROE - It took every player on Monroe's boys tennis team's roster to squeak out a 4-3 win Thursday over Sauk Prairie of the Badger North.

"The match with Sauk was a typical Monroe-Sauk match - a grind-it-out affair," Monroe coach Jim Bartholf said. "I thought we would win at least three singles matches and lose two doubles, but it turned out to be the opposite."

Finnish exchange student Lauri Juonela won 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 for the only Cheesemaker singles win.

"Lauri struggled some today, but still pulled out a win in two sets," Bartholf said.

Carson Root fell 7-5, 6-2, in the second singles spot. Matt Le lost 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 and Eric Knudtson was defeated in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Artem Beer and Jim Kundert won 6-2, 6-1. Pat Gelling and Garrett Tschanz won 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 2 doubles slot, and Mark Hoesly and Dan Becker won No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-3.

Monroe's junior-varsity team won, 9-2.
