MONROE - The Monroe Brewers opened the Home Talent League season with an 11-4 loss to Dodgeville on Sunday.

The Brewers battled back from a 3-0 deficit. Adam Scherer delivered a game-tying RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at 3.

Justin Hahn pitched 6 1/3 innings in his opening-day start and ran into trouble in the seventh when the Dodgers scored four runs.

The Brewers pulled within 7-4 after scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh. Monroe looked poised for a big rally, with runners on second and third and one out. Matt Busjahn hit a deep fly ball and Sherer was thrown out at third after tagging up before the run could score, which ended the threat.

"That was a momentum killer," Brewers co-manager Lon Scheuerell said.

Dodgeville limited the Brewers to just five hits. Scherer and Hahn each collected two hits.

The Brewers were playing without pitchers Cody Boals and Ben Korth, who still are at college.

Monroe played its first game since an exhibition game earlier this spring was rained out.

"We definitely struggled with the bat," Scheuerell said.

Ridgeway 9,

New Glarus 5

New Glarus Tourists Home Talent League manager Stein Rear knows his team can't be judged after just one game.

The Tourists, playing without several college and high school players, lost their season opener on Sunday.

Ridgeway scored three first-inning runs and two in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.

Zach Ketelboeter pitched four innings for New Glarus and gave up just two earned runs on eight hits.

"It's getting your feet back and getting into a groove," Rear said.

Cody Austin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base to lead the Tourists. Rear was 2-for-5.

Rear said the Tourists will have to hang on until the reinforcements arrive.

Hollandale 8, Blanchardville 2

HOLLANDALE - The Rockies received a strong pitching performance from Kurt Ritschard and beat Blanchardville.

Ritschard pitched five innings and gave up just one run on five hits. He struck out five and walked four.

Hollandale (1-0) scored five runs in the seventh to break the game open. William Schlimgen went 2-for-2 and Brandon Ihm was 2-for-3 to lead the Rockies.

Aaron Olson went 2-for-5 and Luke Syse was 2-for-6 for the Bullets.

VERONA 14, ARGYLE 5
