NEW GLARUS - Dodgeville's girls basketball team used a 16-9 run in the second quarter to break open the game and hand New Glarus a 63-51 defeat Saturday.
The Glarner Knights fell behind 30-21 at the break and trailed 51-33 headed into the fourth quarter.
Michelle Preston led New Glarus with 12 points, including three 3-pointers. Tanya Gruter scored 11 points before fouling out and Alycia Atwell scored 10.
The Knights once again pressured themselves into mistakes. A hot defensive attack netted 26 fouls in the game for New Glarus, which in turn sent Dodgeville to the line 37 times. The Dodgers made 24 of their free throws. New Glarus finished 16-of-26 from the line.
The Knights host Waterloo on Tuesday.
