MONROE - With the weather heating up, Monroe senior Jaclyn Ditter welcomed the challenge of running in the hurdles against Stoughton's Brianna Bower, a University of Wisconsin track recruit.

Ditter won three individual events, including the 100-meter high hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the 200 to help the Cheesemakers split a double dual as they knocked off Fort Atkinson 95-51 and lost a nail biter to Stoughton 74-72 Tuesday. Ditter beat Bower in both the 100 and 300 hurdles, breaking her school record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.2 seconds. She won the 300 hurdles in 47 seconds and the 200 in 26.6 seconds.

"She (Bower) was really motivation for me to run fast to try to beat her," Ditter said. "She is really good competition."

Ditter said breaking her school record in the 100 hurdles gives her more confidence heading into the Badger South Conference meet, regional and sectional meets. The Cheesemakers are 5-1 in Badger South dual meets and will head into the conference meet May 17 needing to finish ahead of Stoughton to earn a conference co-championship.

It was far from a one girl meet for the Cheesemakers, however. Monroe freshman Lauren Werth had a hand in winning three events. Werth won the 100 (:12.62) and she anchored the winning 400 and 800 relays. In the 400 relay, she teamed with Brenna Bazley, Maria Eberle and Jessica Jackson to take first with a time of 51.8 seconds. Werth teamed with Bazley, Eberle and Cheyenne Foster to finish first in the 800 relay, with a time of 1:50.5. Werth ran a strong anchor leg to help the Cheesemakers overtake Stoughton in the 400 relay.

"As soon as I saw that she was ahead of me, I knew I wanted to track her down," Werth said. "I just want to run against someone I have competition with."

Werth enjoyed running in warmer weather.

"It was good because my muscles were warm," she said. "I was happy with all my races."

Monroe senior Jess Leu won the shot put (35 feet, 11 1/2 inches) and the discus (109-3). Freshman Taylor Barrett took first in the high jump (5-0).

Monroe coach Curt Miller is confident the Cheesemakers can earn a co-conference championship by finishing ahead of Stoughton at the conference meet May 17.

"We are just looking forward to having another crack at them next week," Miller said. "It was a great meet. It's easy in a close meet to go back and look at the close ones and see where we could have picked up some points. We had a lot of great performances. If we win the conference meet, we can still share the conference title."
