ORFORDVILLE - Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis turned to some small ball to help the Panthers pull out a 3-2 win over Evansville on Saturday.
Juda-Albany junior Alexis Goecks laid down a bunt and reached on an error. Goecks stole second to move into scoring position. Senior teammate Jessica Crull beat a bunt for a single. Senior Danielle Dieckhoff then came through with a game-winning RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Goecks to give the Panthers a 2-1 win over the Blue Devils.
"In the eighth when you have a girl at second base and no outs you want to get her to third base," Davis said. "Getting that bunt down there was pretty big. There are a lot of different ways to score from third base."
Juda-Albany sophomore pitcher Nicki Becker pitched a complete game to get the win. She tossed six shutout innings before the Blue Devils struck in the seventh.
Evansville hit a two-run home run off Becker in the seventh to force extra innings.
"You just have to say the hitter did a good job," Davis said. "It just happens sometimes."
