MONROE - Monroe senior Brett DeNure will wrap up his track career as the first athlete in the history of the boys track program to compete at the Senior Spotlight meet on Saturday.

DeNure will run in the 3,200-meter relay Saturday in the Senior Spotlight meet at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville against the top track athletes from Illinois and Iowa.

DeNure is the second Monroe athlete to be invited to the Senior Spotlight meet. Mike Lindemann was the first Cheesemaker athlete invited to the standout meet, but he didn't compete.

"It's quite an honor," Monroe boys track coach Dave Hirsbrunner said. "It's like an All-Star meet. What a way to cap off a brilliant high school career."

DeNure, who finished as the Division 2 state runner-up in the 800, has the fastest time in the 800 among his teammates and may run the anchor leg.

The Senior Spotlight meet begins at 12:10 p.m. Saturday at UW-Platteville.

Hirsbrunner expects DeNure to run the anchor leg.

"He looks very vast," Hirsbrunner said. "I'm looking forward to him running."
