Monroe graduate Mike Demianiuk is one of 54 baseball players selected to play in the 38th annual American Legion All-Star game Sunday, Aug. 16 at the Milwaukee Brewers' Miller Park.

Demianiuk will play on the South All-Star team. The All-Star game will feature Brewers shortstop J.J. Hardy as the honorary chairman for the league. The game will begin immediately following the 1:05pm Milwaukee Brewers-Houston Astros game.

This year, Hardy has again agreed to serve as the honorary chairman for Wisconsin American Legion Baseball. In addition to making a $5,000 donation to the program through Brewers Charities, Hardy also donated some autographed items that were raffled off to raise funds. A portion of Hardy's donation has gone toward raising the scholarship amount awarded to a Legion Baseball Player and the remainder has been used to defray costs associated with conducting the Legion All-Star Day activities. Hardy will be part of the pre-game celebration and take photos with each team.

Wisconsin American Legion baseball began in 1926, with the aim of providing recreation for teen-aged players. Over 10 million young men have participated since its inception. About 52 percent of all Major League baseball players participated in American Legion Baseball as teenagers and almost 80 percent of college players.

"I am pleased to lend my name and my support to Wisconsin American Legion Baseball. "I also look forward to welcoming the participants in this year's Legion All-Star Game on Aug. 16 here at Miller Park so we can celebrate another successful season of Wisconsin American Legion baseball," said Hardy.
