MONROE - The Monroe boys hockey co-op is still in search of its first win after DeForest knocked off the Avalanche 7-1 Monday night at SLICE Arena.

It was Monroe's second loss to DeForest this season. The Norskies defeated the Avalanche 5-0 on Nov. 28.

DeForest's Weston Knutson scored two goals and had three assists to power the Norskies. The Norskies raced out to an early lead with three goals in the first period. Knutson scored his first goal at the 15 minute, 15 second mark of the first period. About 3 minutes later, DeForest's Logan Wright scored a goal on an assist from Knutson to give the Norskies a 2-0 lead. DeForest's Trent Bochman scored a goal on a pass from Wright with 15 seconds to go in the first period.

DeForest outshot the Avalanche 46-15. Monroe goalie Dan Guilliams had 39 saves.

Monroe's Jared Cline left the game in the first period due to an apparent injury.

It's the sixth straight loss for the Avalanche, who drop to 0-6, 0-1 Badger South.

"Overall, this was a tough one," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "We just didn't play to our ability tonight, and DeForest capitalized on our mistakes."

The Norskies broke the game open by scoring four goals in the second period. Knutson scored a goal 30 seconds later to extend the lead to 5-0. Bachman scored his second goal on an assist from Wright. Nate Garnell scored a power-play goal to give the Norskies a 7-0 lead.

Monroe's Cade Martin scored a goal early in the third period to spoil the shutout bid.

Monroe will have one week to gear up to host Madison Edgewood Dec. 29.

"At this point, we have plenty to work on and hope this upcoming break allows us to regroup and start fresh," Smith said.
