MONROE - Without goalie Dan Guilliams, the Monroe Avalanche boys hockey co-op struggled Saturday in a 14-0 loss to DeForest.
The Avalanche were also missing two other players due to family and personal situations, coach Josh Smith said in an email. The Avalanche had to put Tyler Johnson at goaltender, who had 61 saves against 75 shots on goal.
To add to the difficult circumstances, Brett Jones received penalties that further depleted the Avalanche bench.
"Being down to only one person on the bench effectively killed us, and DeForest scored four times while we were short-handed," Smith said. "We were not back to a full-sized bench until seven minutes left in the second period, and by then everyone was out of gas."
Smith added that Isaac Halverson had his best game of the season.
"I look forward to playing DeForest again at full strength and with our regular goalie, as I feel that it would be a good, close game."
