Day soars to team record in high jump

BRODHEAD - Brodhead-Juda junior Brekan Day cleared 6 feet, 7 1⁄2 inches to break the program record and win a conference championship in the high jump Saturday at the Rock Valley Conference meet.

Day's teammate, senior Jeff Moss, cleared 6-2 to take second.

The one-two finish in the high jump helped the Brodhead-Juda boys track team finish sixth in the conference meet with 64.5 points.

East Troy captured the overall boys conference title with 120 points. Jefferson (100) took second.

The Cardinals' 800 relay team of Jeff Williams, Jack Speckman, Day and Ruben Larson finished second (1:33.16).

Larson took third in the 300 hurdles (40.12). The Cardinals' 400 relay (45.91) and 1,600 relay teams (3:36.31) each took third.

Brodhead-Juda senior Nate Ciabatti placed fourth in the 800 (2:04.58). Senior Joe Stout placed fourth in the discus (135-6).

In the girls conference meet, Brodhead-Juda took fifth (69). Jefferson outdueled East Troy for the championship 147-105.

The Brodhead-Juda girls were looking to repeat as conference champions. However, Big Foot took third and was the top team in the Rock Valley South.

Brodhead-Juda junior Madee Harding won the 200 (26.21), finished second in the 100 (12.75), took fourth in the 400 (59.54) and fourth in the high jump (5-0).

Junior Cora Purdue took second in the 800 (2:21.81).

Sophomore Rhianna Teubert added a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles (49.37). Senior Miranda Ryser finished fourth in the discus (102-8).

The Cardinals' 1,600 relay team placed fourth (4;23.80) and the 3,200 relay team took fourth (10:35.50).
