DARLINGTON - Lafayette County saw one of the wildest games of the year in final week os baseball's regular season. Darlington overcame seven errors and 12 walks to knock off Argyle 22-18 in nine innings - thanks to a walk-off grand slam by Tyler Hardyman.

Hardyman finished the day 4 for 4 at the plate, and four other Redbirds had multiple hits. Griffin Heinberg was 3 for 3 with a double and solo home run, Tyler Black finished 3 for 4 with a 3-run homer and both Brandon Hardyman and Brandon Heins had a pair of hits.

Darlington also used three pitchers in the slugfest. Wade Black started and allowed five hits and five walks in three innings, allowing three earned runs and nine total. Tyler Black took over in the fourth, only to get pegged for four walks, 11 hits and 10 runs. Brandon Heins pitched the final two innings of scoreless baseball to pick up the win.

Argyle made four pitching changes. Nate Thomas opened the game by tossing three innings before ceding to Alec Treuthardt. Treuthardt pitched just 1/3 of an inning, allowing two walks, two hits and five runs and was relieved by Jared Johnson, who tossed 2 2/3 innings on the bump. Johnson allowed six runs on five hits and a walk. Zack Mick opened the seventh, allowing a hit and a walk before being pulled for Thomas, who finished the game. Thomas allowed six earned runs on 11 hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.

Darlington opened the scoring with a two-run first inning, but the Orioles put up a 6-spot in the second inning. After three innings of play, Argyle led 8-6, but a five-run fourth put the Redbirds ahead.

"It was back and forth the whole game," Darlington coach Andy Sawall said. "It's not what I wanted to see with regionals coming up later this week."

Argyle used a second six-run frame in the top of the sixth to make it 17-16, but the Redbirds scored two more in the bottom of the seventh to reclaim the lead. The Orioles then tied it up in the seventh to force extra innings.

Cole Jordan was 5 for 5 at the plate for Argyle with a 3-run home run in the fifth. Chris Severson was 2 for 2 with a double and triple and Johnson, Thomas and Matt Rosebrook each had a pair of hits.
