LIVINGSTON - A four-run second inning and a four-run seventh inning paved the way for the Darlington Redbirds to stay unbeaten and defeat the Iowa-Grant Panthers, 12-5, in SWAL Conference action Tuesday.

Junior Nick Chiaverotti smacked a pair of doubles to lead the Redbirds' 12-hit attack.

Darlington also took advantage of eight Iowa-Grant errors.

Senior pitcher Ronnie Rush earned the win by going 5 1/3 innings and gave up just two runs on three hits. He fanned seven and walked three.

Darlington (7-0, 3-0 SWAL) will travel to Hazel Green to face perennial conference contender Southwestern Thursday.

Evansville 17, Brodhead-Juda 14

BRODHEAD - Senior Billy Sangermano and sophomore Tyler Malcook each belted home runs for the Cardinals, but it wasn't enough as the Evansville Blue Devils won a seesaw slugfest, 17-14, over Brodhead-Juda in Rock Valley conference play Tuesday.

The Cardinals only led once in the game, 3-0, after the first inning.

The Blue Devils scored five runs in the second, and five more in the third to take a 10-3 lead.

Brodhead-Juda answered with five runs in the bottom of the third to close to within 10-8.

The Blue Devils tacked on four runs in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth to take command at 17-8.

The Cardinals got a run in the sixth and five more in the seventh inning to make the final score look more like a football result.

Junior Carson Scheidegger went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Cardinals.

Brodhead-Juda (1-4, 0-4 Rock Valley South) will host Palmyra-Eagle Thursday.

Poynette 12, New Glarus 1

POYNETTE - New Glarus was unable to solve Poynette's Cody Odegaard as the senior pitcher allowed just three hits and drove in three runs in the Glarner Knights' 12-1 loss to the Pumas in five innings Tuesday.

Junior Braden Pittman scored a run in the first inning to give the Glarner Knights a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The Pumas came back with two runs in the first, another run in the second, then broke the game open with a seven-run third inning.

Pittman, Nick Stuessy and Evan Hauge each had a base hit and were the only baserunners for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (1-6, 0-3 Capitol South) will travel to Cambridge for a non-conference game Friday.
