Darlington girls take first, boys are second at Cuba City

CUBA CITY - The Darlington Redbirds track and field teams most certainly enjoyed the 22-mile ride home from Cuba City after competing in the Chris Becker Memorial Invitational. The Darlington girls team won the meet with 125.5 points, while the boys team took second behind Fennimore with 142.5 points.

In the girls meet, Amy Jorgenson gave the Redbirds a first-place finish in the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 50 seconds and Christa Wamsley captured the 3,200 meter run in 13:11.04.

The Redbirds finished second in five other events and took third in four events.

Albany's 3,200 meter relay team of Rosy Bauman, Courtney Pfeuti, Jessica Mauerman, and Bailey Hlavacheck gave the Comets a first-place finish, with a time of 10:40.69. Hlavacheck was first in the 800 meters in 2 :30.29. The Comets placed eighth in the meet with 38 points.

In the boys meet, Tyson Miehe led the Redbirds with first place finishes in the 1,600 meters (4:48.46) and the 3,200 meters (10:09.86). Darlington's 800 meter relay team of Alex Erickson, Mitchell Langkamp, Levi Wedig, and Cody Erickson claimed first place in 1:34.28.

Albany's Reece Whitehead took home first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.05. Whitehead, along with Drew Mather, Jose Ramirez, and Chad Helland grabbed first place as members of the Comets' 3,200 meter relay team by running a time of 8:33.43. Albany placed seventh in the boys meet with 30 points.

Darlington will compete in the Boscobel Invitational Friday and Albany will compete in a dual meet at Belleville Friday.
