CUBA CITY - Darlington junior fullback Hunter Johnson rushed for 254 yards and scored three touchdowns to power the Redbirds to a 34-13 win over Cuba City Friday night.
With the win, Darlington (5-0, 3-0 SWAL), ranked No. 3 in the small-school Associated Press state poll, becomes playoff eligible. Johnson had touchdown runs of 18, 78 and 63-yards to lead the Redbirds.
"Our kids played very hard," Darlington coach Scott Zywicki said. "It was a step up. I thought after last week we did a lot of things that needed to be fixed. We were very physical at the point of attack."
Darlington junior running back Trevor Johnson added 33 rushing yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns. The Redbirds gashed the Cubans for 362 total rushing yards.
"Good teams will shut down one person," Zywicki said. "Trevor gives us that second dimension. We were able to capitalize on some of the counters and reverses and took advantage of how they were stacking the box."
The game was delayed 43 minutes due to lightning. After the delay, Hunter Johnson rumbled for a 63-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to put the game away. With the loss, Cuba City drops to 4-1, 2-1 SWAL.
The Redbirds had 11 penalties for 90 yards.
"That hurt us a little and stopped a few of our drives," Zywicki said. "It allowed Cuba City to stay in the game. There are still things that need to be fixed up.
Brodhead-Juda 33, Parkview 8
BRODHEAD - Seniors Jake Pickel and Dylan Kubly each scored two touchdowns to help Brodhead-Juda roll over Orfordville Parkview.
The Cardinals piled up 274 total rushing yards. Pickel rushed for 133 yards on 18 carries and Kubly had 76 rushing yards on 21 carries.
Brodhead-Juda junior quarterback Matt Schmitt was 3-for-4 passing for 40 yards. Pickel had three receptions for 40 yards.
Parkview was plagued by 12 penalties for 117 yards.
Pecatonica-Argyle 32, Benton-Scales Mound 6
BENTON - Pecatonica-Argyle showcased the various playmakers it has with five players scoring touchdowns en route to a win over Benton-Scales Mound, Ill.
With the win, Pecatonica-Argyle (5-0, 4-0 Six Rivers) clinched a playoff berth.
"It's always one of our goals in the beginning to make the playoffs," Pecatonica-Argyle coach Larry Green said. "We have bigger goals we want to achieve."
Pecatonica-Argyle, ranked No. 10 in the small school Associated Press state poll, has its sights set on winning a conference championship.
Pecatonica-Argyle senior Riley Ostby rushed for 90 yards on 13 carries and scored one touchdown. Junior quarterback Logan Green hooked up with junior A.J. Hendrickson on a 39-yard pass to set the tone in the first quarter. That led to Cam Treuthardt's 2-yard TD run.
Logan Green had a 5-yard TD run and Colin Argue added a 5-yard TD run in the third quarter. Hendrickson had a 7-yard TD run to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings limited the Zephyrs to 41 rushing yards and 141 total yards.
"Our front seven has done a pretty good job all year," Green said. "It (fullback Kyle Pulvermacher) was a focal point all week. We had to stop him. We have to clean up our pass defense."

NEW GLARUS - Gavin Binger scored two touchdowns, and the Glarner Knights (0-5) played Marshall close but couldn't sustain any traction on a rainy night.
Zach Price scored on a
57-yard pass from Josh Chenoweth late in the first quarter, and Binger scored on a 2-yard run with 50 seconds left in the second quarter to give NG-M a 14-8 lead.
But Marshall, aided on the drive by a couple of NG-M penalties, answered with a
1-yard TD run by Adam Wehking with 2 seconds to play before halftime to gain a 15-14 advantage.
Then Marshall's Devon Flynn returned the second-half kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown to give the Cardinals a 22-14 lead.
Binger, who carried the ball 10 times for 65 yards, scored his second touchdown on an 11-yard run with 8:54 to play in the third quarter to pull NG-M within 22-20.
But Cole Seyffer fell on a NG-M fumble in the end zone with 4:24 left in the third to push Marshall's advantage to 28-20.
NG-M lost five of its 10 fumbles and was penalized eight times for 70 yards.
The Glarner Knights outgained the Cardinals in total yards 245-238 but managed just eight first downs while Marshall had 19.
In other action, Evansville-Albany stayed unbeaten by knocking off Jefferson 34-16. With the win, Evansville-Albany (5-0) clinched a playoff berth.
