DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls basketball team remains in the hunt for a SWAL Conference title after rolling to a 56-38 win over Riverdale Thursday night.
Darlington (15-3, 1-1 SWAL) raced out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter. The Redbirds led 28-18 at halftime and limited the Chieftains to just six points in the fourth quarter.
Darlington junior Amy Jorgenson scored 26 points and had six steals and four assists. Cassidy Chambers had nine points and Carley McDonald added five.
"Ten different players had a rebound and that limited Riverdale's opportunity for second chance points," Darlington coach Mike Chambers said.
Darlington will host Argyle on Saturday. The Redbirds, who are in a tie with Fennimore atop the SWAL, will play at Fennimore Tuesday in a showdown for the conference championship.
Brodhead 55, Jefferson 46
JEFFERSON - Brodhead's Mariah Mohns and Taylor Douglas combined for 30 points to lead the Cardinals to the victory.
Mohns scored a game-high 17 points and Douglas had 13 as the Cardinals moved a step closer to a conference title. Brodhead (12-7, 10-3 Rock Valley South) jumped out to a 12-8 lead, but trailed 23-18 at halftime. The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 37-23 in the second half.
The Cardinals made 11 of 20 free throws. Brodhead sophomore Amanda Pickel and freshman Carly Mohns each scored seven.
