FENNIMORE - Fennimore's Kayla Sheckles finished first with a time of 17:08, but the Darlington Redbirds dominated with their top five runners finishing in the top six to win the girls SWAL-1 Conference cross country meet Tuesday with 20 points.
Darlington sophomore Cheyenne Wolfe took second in 17:28, sophomore Christa Wamsley was third in 17:37. Junior Hannah Robiolio followed in fourth place with a time of 17:48, and junior Amy Jorgenson captured fifth place in 18 minutes. Freshman Claire Cullen completed the Redbirds' stranglehold at the top with a sixth-place finish in 18:06.
In all, Darlington placed seven runners in the top ten as senior Taryn Evenstad finished ninth in 18:21 and sophomore Harley Douglas grabbed 10th place with a time of 18:23.
Fennimore was second with 58 points.
On the boys side, Darlington freshman Tyson Miehe ran the 5,000 meter course as if he owned it with a first-place finish in 17:47, 37 seconds better than second place finisher Ryan Mindham of Boscobel.
The Redbirds then placed six runners in the top ten to take the Boys SWAL-1 Conference meet Tuesday with 24 points. Boscobel was second with 44 points. Darlington left no doubt about their dominating effort as junior Michael Sinclair finished third with a time of 18:37 and junior Destin Komprood taking fifth in 18:47.
After that, the Redbirds left no doubt as senior Connor Roche took seventh in 19:04, sophomore Garth Garrison finsihed eighth in 19:05, and junior Kent Miehe came in ninth with a time of 19:06. Darlington's Brady McDaniel was 12th as he clocked in at 19:17.
A SWAL-2 Conference meet will be held at Darlington on October 14. Darlington will return to Fennimore on Saturday for the Fennimore Invitational.
