Darlington boys claim sectional championship

BANGOR - The Darlington boys track and field team will send five individuals in six events and three relays to state after its winning effort in the WIAA Division 3 Bangor sectional Thursday.

Darlington rolled up 76 points to edge Luther to win the 29-team event.

Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg captured the girls sectional title 75-68 over Cuba City. The Darlington girls finished fourth (52). Pecatonica-Argyle (27) tied for eighth place out of 30 teams.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the state meet June 2-3 in La Crosse.

Darlington's boys 3,200 relay team of junior Tanner Evenstad, senior Conner Hackett, junior Paul King and sophomore Tucker Lange won the sectional title in 8 minutes, 19.32 seconds.

Monticello senior Max Hoffmaster was second in the 100 (11.32) and fourth in the 200 (23.30).

Darlington had two runners qualify for state in the 800 and the 3,200. Hackett finished second in the 3,200 (10:10.78) and King was fourth (10:13.58). Lange took third (2:04.59) in the 800 and Evenstad was fourth (2:04.59).

Darlington sophomore Trae Schilling was fourth in the 1,600 (4:48.06).

Darlington junior Grady Rielly took second in the 110 hurdles (15.79) and second in the 300 hurdles (41.21). The Redbirds' 400 relay team of senior Jared Meister, senior Trevor Johnson, sophomore Blake Whalen and junior Kameron Blosch took third (45.08). In the 800 relay, the Redbirds' team of Kameron Blosch, junior Curtis Blosch, Meister and Johnson placed third (1:33.71).

The Redbirds' 1,600 relay team placed fifth (3:32.93) and missed qualifying for state by .08 seconds.

In the girls meet, Darlington's 3,200 relay team of junior Emma Crist, junior Reghan Komprood, sophomore Ilse Mendez and senior Paige Schilling won a sectional title in 10:14.72.

Pecatonica-Argyle senior Josie Penniston finished second in the 400 (59.49).

Darlington senior Paige Schilling took second in the 3,200 (12:08.21). Junior Kennedy Rankin finished third in the discus (123 feet). Junior Reghan Komprood placed fourth in the 1,600 (5:43.30), and junior Hunter Weber took fourth in the pole vault (9-3).

The Redbirds' 800 relay team of senior Sadie Fitzsimons, sophomore Kaylee Meyers, freshman Lizzie Schwartz and sophomore Kathleen Mathias finished third (1:51.43).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Taetum Pagel took third in the high jump (4-10).



DIVISION 3 HILBERT SECTIONAL

HILBERT - Albany senior Evan Blumer won a sectional title in the discus with a throw of 143 feet, 2 inches.

Both the Albany girls and boys track teams finished 13th out of 30 teams at the Hilbert sectional. Algoma won the girls sectional team championship with 68 points over runner-up Reedsville (55). Albany scored 26 points, which was one point behind 11th-place Deerfield and five points away from a top-10 finish. Cambridge rolled up 69 points to win the boys sectional title. Algoma took second (63). Albany scored 24 points.

Albany sophomore Josh Dahl placed fifth in the 400 (53.30) and just missed qualifying for state. The Comets' 3,200 relay team finished fifth (8:32,74) and was less than 8 seconds away from a state berth.

For the girls, Albany senior Ciara Kaderly was second in the 1,600 (5:21.92).

The Comets' 3,200 relay team of junior Emma Guenther, freshman Kristin O'Bel, sophomore Megan Anderson and Kaderly finished fourth (10:06.76). The Comets' 1,600 relay team placed fifth and was about one second away from qualifying for state.

Albany sophomore Libby Beck took fifth in the shot put (37-81⁄4) and just missed qualifying for state.
