SHULLSBURG - The Darlington girls basketball team received a big game from junior Amy Jorgenson and had some hot free throw shooting to pull out a 52-44 win over Shullsburg Monday night.
Jorgenson scored a game-high 15 points to pace the Redbirds. Darlington made 20 of 29 free throws to help seal the win.
The Redbirds trailed 23-21 at halftime, but exploded with a big second half outscoring the Miners 22-6 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the victory.
Darlington senior Elizabeth Mathias scored eight points and Cassidy Chambers had seven.
Black Hawk 58, New Glarus 45
SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk senior point guard Melissa Wellnitz was a difference maker for the Warriors in a non-conference win over New Glarus.
Wellnitz scored 15 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to propel the Warriors to the victory. The Warriors led by just two points after the first quarter. Black Hawk outscored the Glarner Knights 18-6 in the second quarter and led 34-20 at halftime. The Warriors made just 15 of 26 free throws. Black Hawk senior Rachel Rygh scored 11 points and Alyssa Piefer added nine.
New Glarus senior Chelsea Holler led the Knights with 13 points and junior Alycia Atwell scored 11.
